World Guide

Anne Waiguru, the Kirinyaga county governor and chair of the Council of Governors in Kenya, has been endorsed by women leaders in the country to run for deputy president in 2027 general election.

The women leaders lead by Ida Odinga praised Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru's leadership, describing her as transformative.
They also acknowledged governor Waiguru as a progressive and transformative leader with an outstanding track record in her county.

"Who endorsed Waiguru for deputy president?" Ida Odinga said.
Speaking at the G7 Strategy activation in Kirinyaga county, governors, deputy governors, county woman representatives, and senior government officials endorsed Waiguru’s candidacy for the position of deputy president.

Led by the G7 patron Ida Odinga, the women expressed their admiration for the Kirinyaga county governor, stating that she is now well-prepared to take on a national leadership role.

"G7 is committed to supporting women who vie for political seats," Ida said.
Kwale Governor Fatuma Achani echoed Ida's remarks, describing Waiguru as an exceptional leader who consistently advocates for women's leadership.

She stated that her resilience has enabled her to overcome challenges facing women in leadership positions.

“We are saying that Governor Anne Waiguru has come of age for national politics,” said Achani, Kwale governor.
Homa Bay governor Gladys Wanga was not left behind. She said that the G7 colleagues have learned a lot from Waiguru.

She stated that Waiguru is prepared to take the next step in her political career once her current tenure concludes.

“She is a strong woman fit for any position,” said Gladys Wanga.
Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti mentioned her intention to replicate some of Kirinyaga’s projects in her county.

"Waiguru broke the glass ceiling as the first woman governor in Kenya, and inspired us to vie for the gubernatorial seat, we are behind her as she continues to advocate for women leadership in the country,” said Ndeti.

This occurs as the groundwork for the motion to impeach Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has been established after 242 MPs appended their signatures in kicking on petition to impeach Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
Kimilili MP Didmus Barasa is the one charged with tabling the motion.
